A crash involving an autonomous Zoox robotaxi and a silver Nissan Murano sent one person to a Las Vegas hospital Friday morning (Sept. 25), as Nevada Highway Patrol investigated the collision on the Strip.

The injured party was the driver of the Murano, who was transported to a local hospital with injuries of unknown severity. The crash occurred on southbound Las Vegas Boulevard near Four Seasons Drive, near the south end of Mandalay Bay.

It was not immediately clear what caused the collision or who was at fault. Authorities also did not say whether anyone was riding in the Zoox when the crash occurred. Initial reports placed the collision at approximately 8:19 a.m., though authorities later said Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded at 9:01 a.m. and took the lead on the investigation from police.

Four southbound lanes were temporarily blocked around Four Seasons Drive for towing and the investigation, but later reopened. The incident comes as Zoox is rapidly expanding its Las Vegas operation. The Amazon subsidiary began offering public rides in Las Vegas on Sept. 10, 2025, initially at no charge. The company began charging passengers on Aug. 10, 2026, after receiving federal regulatory approval for commercial operation of its purpose-built vehicles. In September, it expanded paid service to Harry Reid International Airport.

Unlike conventional cars—and autonomous vehicles based on conventional cars—Zoox’s purpose-built robotaxis do not have a steering wheel, accelerator, or brake pedals. The vehicles are designed to operate in either direction and have four passenger seats arranged to face one another.

Amazon acquired Zoox in 2020 and runs it as an independent subsidiary.

Friday’s crash is not the first reported Zoox collision in Las Vegas this year. The Review-Journal reported that a Zoox vehicle was involved in a minor June crash on the Strip Boulevard at Harmon Avenue that required the vehicle to be towed. The newspaper also reported another incident in which a Zoox was struck by a human-driven vehicle at the MGM Grand in early July.

A separate Aug. 25 crash at Decatur Boulevard and Russell Road involved an unoccupied Zoox that was rear-ended by a Ford 4Runner after stopping for an emergency vehicle, according to Zoox and local reports.
